High Pines

A single-family weekend residence set into a sloped pine forest in the Urals, organized around a long section that follows the hillside.

A single-family weekend residence set into a dense, sloped pine forest in the Urals. The plan follows a single datum: a long concrete retaining wall, from which the living spaces step down the hill through a series of interconnected platforms. The roof meets the canopy; the floor meets the ground.

The house contrasts with the vertical rhythm of the trees while opening its interiors to the forest. Its wooden façade is clad in dark shingles, and large windows frame the changing views outside.

Inside, a double-height living room and kitchen form the heart of the house, with private family quarters and a small spa area beyond.
