Breaking Ground

If you have a project in mind, a house or a renovation you’ve been thinking about for a while, the easiest way to begin is a two-hour working session.

We sit down with whatever you have, even if it’s only the thoughts themselves, and sort out what you actually want and what should come first; some things, you’ll find, can safely wait. By the end you’ll have a plan and a fairly clear story of what you’re building and why, and from there you can decide how far to take it. The session is $500, and everything after it is entirely up to you.

How it goes

We meet over coffee or a video call, whichever is easier, and spend the two hours on your project rather than on formalities. Usually we start with the story: how long you’ve had the place or the idea, what you’d like life to look like there, and what’s been holding things up. From there we move to the practical side, budgets and sequences and who you’ll need, and by the end the fog tends to organize itself into a short list of next steps. Afterwards I’ll send you a one-page summary, so the plan doesn’t evaporate on the way home.

And further

Some projects end there, with a clear plan and an owner who knows what to do next, and that’s a perfectly good outcome. Others grow into concept work, interiors, or a full design; when that happens we simply talk about scope, and the session fee counts toward the work.

For designers and studios

The same kind of conversation works for people who make things for a living and are feeling their way through what the new tools mean for their craft: we sit down, sort out what actually matters for the way you work, and you leave with a couple of instruments worth keeping and a plan that sounds like you. If that’s closer to what you need, there is a longer note about it here.
